Introduction:
The oil, gas, and petrochemical industries face significant risks when it comes to failures in piping systems, including asset damage, personal injuries, and even loss of life. These failures can be attributed to two main factors: excessive vibration and flow turbulence within the piping system.
Excessive vibration, in the form of high levels of acoustic energy (AIV), can contribute to piping failure. The vibrations can cause stress and fatigue on the piping components, leading to cracks, leaks, or complete structural failure.
Flow turbulence, known as flow-induced vibration (FIV), is another common cause of piping system failures. It occurs due to shear forces within the piping system, which can create disturbances and instabilities in the flow of fluids. This turbulence can result in increased stress on the piping, leading to fatigue, erosion, or other forms of damage.
It is critical for the industry to address these issues proactively to prevent failures in piping systems. Implementing measures to mitigate excessive vibration and flow turbulence is crucial to ensure the integrity and reliability of the piping infrastructure. By doing so, the industry can safeguard assets, protect personnel from harm, and prevent catastrophic incidents.
Course Objectives:
- Enable participants to be able to undertake an AIV an FIV assessment following good industry practice.
- Allow participants to gain an understanding of the prediction, screening and assessment procedures.
- Provide participants with oversight of design measures that can be implemented in order to minimize the risk of induced vibration.
- Provide worked examples of the application of the assessment methodologies during the design phase of a project.
Who Should Attend?
The course is aimed at professionals who have involvement in the design of oil and gas assets, who want to gain a comprehensive understanding of how AIV and FIV assessments are carried out and gain some practical experience in undertaking such studies. The course is primarily aimed at Project Managers, Process Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers.
