Introduction:
Course Objectives:
The unit aims to:
· Provide an overview of the structure, function, and applications of electrical energy conversion systems.
· Describe the characteristics of system components and to undertake top-level design and performance calculations.
· The module will detail the various steps required to carry out the power quality analysis of an EECS system.
Who Should Attend?
This course is intended for engineers and other technical staff, who are involved in the selection, installation, operation, testing, troubleshooting, or maintenance of electrical equipment.
Course Outlines:
Knowledge and understanding
- Explain the structure and function of EECS in the various sectors studied. Give examples of an EECS. Describe the characteristics and function of the main system components in an EECS
- Understand power quality issues, analysis, and benchmark specifications.
- Explain current issues for EECS systems in more-electric transportation and electrical energy networks
- State and explain the main energy management, protection strategies, and devices of an EECS system
- Understand and explain the technology and issues related to modern renewable power generation, wind in particular. Explain the design and principles of operation of energy conversion drives used in contemporary wind turbines
Intellectual skills
- Apply electrical and mathematical principles to analyze the operation of an EECS
- Undertake systematic analysis of engineering problems and develop solutions based on scientific and mathematical principles
Practical skills
- Analysis techniques using either Excel or Matlab/Simulink
- Evaluation of power quality through circuit measurements
