SCADA and Communication Standards: Communication Standards and Protocols, SCADA Concepts and Features, Alarms, Trends, Graphs, Database Connectivity) Course
Introduction:
The SCADA is widely used for monitoring, operation, alarms and sequence of events recording, database administration, reporting and logs, etc. in the oil and gas, petrochemicals, power, steel and cement manufacturing/production, packing, raw material processing, etc. industries. For increased capability, these can be interfaced with a PLC and DCS or run in standalone mode. With improved visuals and plant mimics, an efficient SCADA system gives process operators a better front end. It also assists instrumentation and process engineers in performing better diagnosis and maintenance. This is an introductory course designed to help students gain a solid understanding of communication standards and protocols as well as the fundamentals of SCADA. It focuses on offering SCADA commissioning and troubleshooting's practical features.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course the participant will be able to:
- Have a brief exposure to the Hierarchical Structure of Automation and Control Systems
- Learn SCADA fundamentals and architectures
- Understand SCADA programming for front end displays
- Understand alarm management, data logging, trends and reports
- Have knowledge on SCADA Project Engineering, Design, and Selection vis-à-vis applications
- Master the art of SCADA maintenance and troubleshooting
- Understand ISO OSI Seven Layer Communication Structure
- Learn communication interfaces viz. RS 232, RS485, Ethernet
